Faroese pelagic trawler “Ango” has been using the Vónin Twister Smart doors for this years’ Mackerel fishing

Starting out in Faroese, International and Norwegian zone with the semi-automatic system installed, they continued in UK waters after getting the full-automatic system implemented.

Captain Heri Godtfred expressed great satisfaction right away when they got the Twister manual doors. He was especially impressed with their spread force, as it turned out that they could use 10m2 doors for the same trawl gear that they had used significantly larger doors for previously. The Twister doors were lighter to tow and, at the same time spreading the gear better.

The acoustic system has been performing flawlessly since they got it, and for example when towing for Mackerel near the surface, the signal was intact for the full duration of the tow.

After finishing the Mackerel in UK waters, “Ango” went for a trip on Blue Whiting in Faroese waters.

From using a light Mackerel trawl, they were now using a large Blue Whiting trawl, but the doors were still doing their job maintaining the desired depth that was keyed into the Twister screen on the bridge.

“Even when turning and also in strong currents, the Twister doors were doing a fantastic job keeping the trawl open!” Captain Godtfred said.

“Ango” has been using both V-rig and parallel rig when using the Twister Smart doors, and the steering abilities have been impressing with both setups.

Another thing that is impressing with the Twister Smart doors is the battery usage! The system uses approximately 1% of battery life per operation hour. Because of this we have never yet experienced that a battery has run out of power. The charging is also very efficient with only 1½ hour to charge up to 80%.
