Caplin purse seine net a success! (NEW VIDEO)
Faroese pelagic vessel Jupiter FD42 received its new purse seine net for the Caplin season in February.
After having finished its quota, they only had positive feedback to give us about the net, Captain Finnbjørn Mikkelsen said.
"The net has been performing extremely well. We had some bad weather, but we didn't have any tearing on the net. Taking hauls of up to 1100 tonnes was an easy task and we did not have to worry about the net busting or sinking".

The net has been made in close cooperation with Cpt. Mikkelsen and the fact that the entire headrope is double-floated with 10 litre floats helped to make the fishing effective. Another thing with this net is that it has been tailored to withstand the harsh winter conditions often experienced during the caplin season in Iceland. The twine dimensions are generally two sizes above what usually is being considered enough for this fishing, so it's quite a strong seine. The depth of the net is 65 fathoms and the length of the headrope is 242 fathoms.
